Anything bolted flat to a car park up here has to live with a blade and a grit spreader going over it. Group One New Zealand installs car park wheel stops through mid-Canterbury and out to Methven, travelling from a base on Foreman’s Road in Islington, Christchurch, and Sydney Chappell founded the New Zealand company in 2026. At 320 m and close to the Southern Alps foothills, a stop that would sit happily on the plains needs a second thought about where it goes and how it is fixed. Tell us the address and the bay count and we will come out and walk it.
Two meanings share these words, so to be clear: this is car park hardware. A wheel stop is the low barrier fixed across the head of a parking bay, so a vehicle rolls forward, meets it with the front tyres, and stops before the bumper reaches the wall, the deck, the footpath or the bay opposite. Car stops, parking blocks, parking bay stops are all the same thing. None of it is vehicle wheels, tyres, rims, castors, chocks or wheel alignment. If you need parking bay stops at a Methven property, this is the page.

Methven carries a short-stay pool that is large for a town of roughly 1,500 to 1,700 permanent residents. Dozens of holiday homes and apartments, plus lodges, farm stays and backpacker accommodation, and their parking fills up when Mt Hutt does.
That produces a particular kind of work:
A supplier will freight stops to Methven and drop them at the gate. Deciding where each one belongs in a car park that gets cleared of snow, and fixing it so it stays put, is the part done on site.
Pricing is on quote. The number follows the visit. It is built from:
This is the part that makes Methven different from a plains car park. Local forecasts here regularly show overnight temperatures below freezing and rain turning to snow, and car parks that see that weather get cleared.
A wheel stop is a raised object bolted to a flat surface, which puts it directly in the path of anything scraping across that surface. So before we set anything out, we ask how the car park is cleared and which way the machine runs. Stops then get sited to sit out of the sweep where possible, and where they cannot, the fixing is specified to take a knock rather than the minimum that would hold on a sheltered site. Loose or damaged stops after a season are almost always a siting decision made without asking that question.
Freeze-thaw does the slower damage. Water sits around a fixing, freezes overnight, expands and thaws, and over a winter it works an anchor in asphalt loose while the stop itself still looks fine. Sound concrete holds an anchor better. Asphalt takes a spike or a longer anchor into stable material underneath, and where the surface has already broken up around an old fixing, the new one goes into fresh material.
Install timing follows the same logic. The shoulder season, before the ski visitors fill the lodge and hospitality parking and while the ground is workable, is the sensible window.
Vehicles parking across township footpaths is a live complaint in Methven, and it is exactly what a correctly placed stop prevents. The measurement is straightforward but it has to be done: we work back from the bay line, allow for how far the nose of the vehicle hangs past its front wheels, and put the stop where the vehicle finishes clear of the walking route.
Guest parking deserves extra care. A driver who has never parked at your lodge before, in the dark, on a wet surface, with a full car, will use everything you give them. A stop takes the guesswork out of it.
We also keep stops clear of the surface falls and drainage channels. Meltwater and heavy rain need to reach a sump, and a stop laid across the flow holds water against its own anchors.

Inside your own boundary, the layout is yours to decide. Where a car park meets the road corridor, a public footpath or a vehicle crossing, confirm the position with Ashburton District Council before anything is fixed down.
It is also worth remembering that visible car park hardware gets noticed in a small town. The district has had public argument over bollards installed at Upper Hakatere Reserve, and while a wheel stop is a much smaller object, the lesson carries: on a shared or public-facing frontage, talk to the people who use it before you bolt something to the ground. It is a short conversation and it saves a longer one.
For a workplace, keeping vehicles out of the routes staff and guests walk is part of your health and safety duties, and that is most of what good bay geometry buys you.
Nothing is stocked at this elevation. Every stop, anchor and tool arrives on the vehicle, up from Islington in Christchurch, which is why the phone conversation beforehand is as much about gates, guest access and where a ute can park as it is about bay counts. Sydney Chappell started Group One New Zealand in 2026, we are a small team, so you know you’ll get the very best, and we guarantee all the work we do. In the company’s own words: “Although Group 1 Line Marking has just started here in New Zealand, as a group we have been operating in Australia for almost 25 years.” What we supply and install is listed on our page.

Call 027 424 0600 to Request a Free QuoteIt depends where it sits and how it is fixed. Tell us how your car park is cleared and which direction the machine runs, and we will site the stops around it.
The shoulder season, before the winter visitor traffic arrives and while the surface is workable. Booking ahead of the season beats trying to fit it around full guest parking.
A stop placed for the longest vehicle that uses the bay, not the average one. That is a measurement, and it is why we would rather see the frontage than quote off a bay count.
Rubber and recycled plastic are lighter and easier to lift or reposition, which suits a car park that gets cleared. Precast concrete suits heavy, permanent positions well away from the machine’s path. We will recommend one on site.
Quoted per property. Bay count, stop type, surface, fixing and how the car park is cleared all move the figure.
