You have a car park to hand over and the builder is still packing up. That is most of the line marking we do in Rangiora: new commercial developments, retail frontages and contractor yards that need a layout before anyone parks on them. Group One New Zealand sends crews up from Islington in Christchurch, about 35 minutes away, and Sydney Chappell founded the New Zealand company in 2026. Send us the site address, the area or bay count and the surface type, and we will come and take a look. Site visits are booked between 7am and 3pm, Monday to Friday.
North Canterbury’s population centre is in the middle of a long construction run. The Waimakariri District Plan unlocked land for up to 17,000 new houses across Rangiora, Kaiapoi, Woodend and Oxford, and there were 7,458 businesses across the district in 2025. Every new commercial building, every yard a contractor sets up to service that pipeline, and every retail car park that turns over with it eventually needs someone to set out where the vehicles go.
The work covers:
Retail frontages and school grounds behave differently from an industrial floor. A shop car park wears from constant turnover in a small number of bays; a warehouse floor wears in strips where the forklifts run. Both get a layout designed around that, not a standard grid.

There is no price list. Line marking is quoted per site, after someone has walked it, and the quote is assembled from:
On a handover job the access question usually answers itself, because nothing is parked there yet. On a trading site it becomes the main thing we plan around, and it is worth telling us early which rows can be coned off and when.
Canterbury’s strongest winds blow from the north-west, and Rangiora catches them. Wind is the practical limit on line marking: it carries overspray onto cars and kerbs, and it skins the paint before it has settled, which is what gives you a ragged edge instead of a clean one. Environment Canterbury projects inland areas north and west of Rangiora becoming 15 to 25% windier in winter and spring by 2090, so this is not a constraint that is going away.
Winter southerlies are the other one. They bring hard frosts to the plains, and a frosted or damp surface holds moisture long after the air feels dry. We book a day and a working window rather than a fixed hour, and if the conditions on the morning would give you a finish you would not sign off, we say so and come back.
Three stages carry a job: design, manufacture, installation.
Design is done on site. We measure the area, look at the falls and the surface, and draw a layout around the traffic you actually have, including delivery vehicles and where people walk between the car park and the door. Manufacture covers the stencils, numbering and custom markings prepared for that layout. Installation is preparation, then removal or covering of old lines, then application. The crew tells you before leaving how long to keep the surface clear.
Where forklifts and pedestrians share a floor, or delivery vehicles cross a route staff walk, marked traffic and hazard zones are part of how the site meets its health and safety duties. Walkthrough lanes, forklift paths and defined storage zones are inexpensive controls, and they help in minimising work-related accidents.
Anything in the road corridor, on a public street or across a vehicle crossing is a matter for Waimakariri District Council, so start there before the layout is fixed and we will mark to what is approved. Inside your own boundary, the layout is yours.

Sydney Chappell started the New Zealand company in 2026. It is a small team, which suits handover work: one point of contact from the measure-up to the day the bays go down, which matters when a developer’s date moves and the whole programme shifts with it. The Australian side of it is longer standing, and the company describes it this way: “Although Group 1 Line Marking has just started here in New Zealand, as a group we have been operating in Australia for almost 25 years.” We guarantee all the work we do, with current line marking tools and equipment and environmentally safe products. The full range of services sits on our page.
New sites are easiest to mark in the gap between the builder leaving and the tenants arriving. If you know roughly when that gap falls, tell us now and we will hold it.

Yes. Court markings and playground layouts are set out to the dimensions the sport or the school needs, and school work is usually scheduled into a term break so the ground can be closed off.
Yes, though most Rangiora enquiries are commercial. Tell us what the surface is and what you want defined, and we will let you know what is practical.
As soon as you know the seal or slab date. Booking early lets us hold a window that suits the weather rather than taking whatever day is left before your tenants arrive.
Light air movement is manageable and we adjust the technique for it. A genuine nor’wester is not, and we would rather move the day than hand back overspray on someone’s car.
It is quoted per site. Area, surface condition, preparation, layout complexity and access all move the figure, which is why the visit comes first.
