You are working with a small floor and a lot that has to fit on it. Kaiapoi’s commercial base is built from industrial units of roughly 70 to 400 square metres, plus retail frontages and offices, so line marking here is precise, small-footprint work rather than acres of bays. Small units, tight floors and compact frontages
Kaiapoi rebuilt after the earthquakes and much of the town is modern stock, which means fresh concrete and fresh seal in a lot of places, but not much room to be generous with. On a floor of that size, a forklift lane that is 300 mm too wide costs you a whole racking bay. The layout has to be designed, not estimated.

Why we price after the visit, not before
Line marking is quoted per site. Nobody can price a floor honestly from a description over the phone, and on small sites the guess is proportionally worse, because a single awkward corner can be most of the job. Once we have been on site, the quote covers:
- The area to be marked, and how many lanes, bays or zones the layout needs
- The condition of the surface and the preparation required
- Whether existing lines have to be removed or covered
- Layout complexity, including hatching, arrows, stencils and numbering
- Access, and how long we can have the floor or the bays to ourselves
Clearing a small unit is often the customer’s biggest input. A floor emptied for a morning is quick work. A floor marked around stock that keeps moving takes longer and costs more.
Storms, drying time and picking the week
Kaiapoi sits behind the Waimakariri and Kaiapoi River stopbanks, which protect the township from flooding. The more useful forecast for scheduling is the shape of the rain: district projections point to less annual rainfall overall, but storms becoming more frequent and more severe. Fewer wet days, heavier ones.

Concrete and seal hold water long after the sky clears, and the low spots in a car park hold it longest, which is also where markings wear out first. Design is a measure-up on your site. We record the area, the falls and the surface, then set out a layout around the equipment you run, the doors you load through and the route people walk. On a small floor we will usually walk it with you and mark up the options before anything is committed. Manufacture covers stencils, numbering and any custom markings. Installation is preparation, removal or covering of the old lines, then application. Before the crew leaves you get a time for keeping traffic off.
Marked floors, safety duties and the council
A marked walkway is one of the cheapest ways to keep people out of the path of a forklift, and on a compact floor it is often the only way. Walkthrough lanes, forklift paths and defined storage zones help in minimising work-related accidents, and they make the space easier to run day to day.
Waimakariri District Council handles anything in the road corridor, on the street or across a vehicle crossing, so that part of the conversation starts with them. Within your own boundary, we mark to the layout you approve.
