Your guest car park fills the week Mt Hutt opens, and faded bays cost you spaces you have already sold. Getting lodge, hotel and village car parks set out before that happens is what most of our Methven line marking work is about. Group One New Zealand brings crews up from Islington in Christchurch, and Sydney Chappell founded the New Zealand company in 2026. Send us the address, the surface and a rough bay count, and we will come and take a look. Calls are answered 7am to 3pm on weekdays.
Methven runs on two economies at once. About 1,500 to 1,700 people live here permanently at the centre of a cropping, dairy and livestock district, and the town carries an unusually large short-stay pool for its size: holiday homes, apartments, lodges, farm stays, hotels and backpacker accommodation, all of which need somewhere for guests to leave a car.
That mix produces a broad job list:
There is new commercial ground coming too. Bare Business D zoned land on Line Road allows light industrial, service and commercial development, and a site like that arrives with no layout at all.

Methven sits at 320 m, close to the foothills of the Southern Alps, and that shows up in the working calendar more than in any other town we cover. Township forecasts through the colder months run to overnight temperatures below freezing and rain turning to snow, and the ski fields above town record icy winds and storm systems rolling through.
None of that is paintable. A surface that has been frozen overnight holds moisture well past the point where the air feels dry, and a marking laid onto it will not bond properly no matter how good it looks at the time.
The practical answer is the shoulder season. Autumn, before the first visitors arrive, and spring once the ground has come back up, are when a Methven car park is easiest to mark properly and hand back quickly. If your busiest weeks are in winter, book the work for the months either side of them and you get both a better finish and no lost parking when it matters.
Line marking is quoted per site, with the number worked out after someone has been there. What goes into it:
Guest parking has an access wrinkle of its own. A car park with people checking in and out all day is marked in sections, so it helps to tell us at the visit which rows can be closed and on which days your bookings dip.
Design, manufacture and installation, with you consulted right through.
Design is done on site. We measure the area, look at the falls and the surface, and lay out the bays around how vehicles actually arrive, including anything towing a trailer or a boat. Manufacture covers stencils, numbering and custom markings. Installation is preparation first, then removal or covering of old lines, then application. The crew gives you a clear time before leaving for keeping the surface free of traffic.
Marked bays are not only about fitting more cars in. Where guests and delivery vehicles use the same ground, or a forklift crosses a walkway in a shed, the markings are part of how the site meets its health and safety duties, and defined walkways and vehicle routes help in minimising work-related accidents.
Anything beyond your boundary goes elsewhere. Local roads are Ashburton District Council’s, and SH77 through the township is a state highway, where NZTA has already reduced the speed limit at the north end from 100 km/h to 60 km/h. Inside your own boundary, the layout is yours and we mark it to suit.

Being a small team is why a booking here can be held against the forecast and the season instead of being handed to whoever happens to be free. Group One New Zealand was founded in 2026 by Sydney Chappell, and the crews travel up from Islington in Christchurch for the shoulder-season window that suits a lodge or a village car park. All our line marking is backed by our commitment to 100% client satisfaction. In the company’s own words: “Although Group 1 Line Marking has just started here in New Zealand, as a group we have been operating in Australia for almost 25 years.” There is more on our page.
Ski-season car parks are best sorted while the town is quiet. Tell us roughly when your bookings thin out and we will fit the job into that gap.

Autumn or spring. The shoulder months give you a dry, unfrozen surface and an empty car park at the same time, which is a combination winter rarely offers here.
Sometimes, on a settled day and later in the morning once the surface has come up. We will not lay paint onto a frozen or damp slab, so a winter booking may move.
Yes. Court and playground markings are set out to the dimensions the sport or the school needs, and this work is usually scheduled into a break so the area can be closed off.
If the surface is sealed or concrete and in sound condition, yes. Loose or unsealed ground will not hold paint, and we will tell you that at the visit rather than afterwards.
It is quoted per site. Area, surface condition, preparation, layout complexity and access all move the figure, which is why the visit comes first.
